“Papillon” was written as a way to console a friend going through a difficult time in their life. The friend, who has a deep fascination with butterflies, was facing many battles in their health and personal life and felt like they were at the end of their rope. Inspired by the spiritual significance of butterflies, the song was crafted to let them know that someone is there for them, even when they feel the need to hide with their broken wings.
Lyrics
Papillon, alone so beautiful
Papillon, nobody truly knows
What you’ve seen, the storms that come and go
How the queen hides behind regality
Hide away on your flower
Close your broken wings
You’re the only one who knows
Close your broken wings
You’re the only one who knows
What you see isn’t what she feels
Behind the wings, scars and bruises tell the tale
Open wounds take away to start again
Papillon, you weren’t meant to fly alone
Behind the wings, scars and bruises tell the tale
Open wounds take away to start again
Papillon, you weren’t meant to fly alone
Hide away on your flower
Close your broken wings
You’re the only one
The only one I see
Close your broken wings
You’re the only one
The only one I see
So safely land on my hand
(I’ll take your hand)
Spread wide your broken wings
(These broken wings)
Breathe the evening air
Be free
(I’ll take your hand)
Spread wide your broken wings
(These broken wings)
Breathe the evening air
Be free
Papillon (papillon) nobody truly knows
Papillon (papillon) I’ll take care of you
Papillon (papillon) I’ll take care of you
